Volunteer Month: Spotlight on the CACL Board of Directors

April 21, 2016 - - Volunteers

April is National Volunteer Month and CACL is lucky to have a Board of Directors made up of a dedicated and generous group of individuals that come from all corners of the country. Here are just a few of our stand-out Board members from New Brunswick, Alberta, Québec, and British Columbia.

Joy Bacon, President – New Brunswick
Joy has extensive experience in the health and social services field focusing on community involvement and finding solutions. She serves on the Boards and various committees of the New Brunswick Association for Community Living, the Canadian Mental Health Association (both national and provincial) and the NBSPCA.

Roy Skoreyko, Director-at-Large – Alberta
Roy is a long-time advocate on behalf of people with intellectual disabilities. He is the recipient of numerous awards including the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal.  His life experiences have been featured in books and film.  Roy believes strongly that the voices of self-advocates must be heard and that all people must be valued and appreciated.

Ginette Fréchette-Houle, Director – Québec
Ginette has been involved with the community living movement for over 40 years. She is a Board member of the Montreal Association for the Intellectually Handicapped (MAIH).  Appointed to CACL by QACL, she is committed to the rights of people with intellectual disabilities, particularly those who are most vulnerable (for example, the need for changing tables for adults in popular public places).

Jackie Carpenter, Director – British Columbia
Jackie is the President of Inclusion BC, a Family Support Institute Resource Parent, and an active member of Sparwood Search & Rescue.  Jackie lives in Sparwood, BC with her husband Chris and their two children, Tyler and Madison.  Her family is honored to have Cookie, who is an Autism support dog, live with them and support Tyler.
