CACL-PFC Joint Task Force responds to reversal of Michener Centre closure

CACL-PFC Joint Task Force on The Right to Live in Community responds to Alberta's reversal of Michener Centre closure

Michener Centre

On September 19, 2014 Alberta's new Premier, Jim Prentice, announced that he was reversing the previous decision from March 2013 to close the main facility of Michener Centre in Red Deer.  In his announcement he stated: “All the residents will be permitted to live out their remaining years in this special place."  Those people who have already transitioned out to homes in the community will be permitted to return if they so choose.  Anyone who is still in the process of transitioning out of Michener and that wishes to continue will still be supported to do so.

The CACL-PFC Joint Task Force on The Right to Live in Community has sent the following letter to Premier Prentice to express, on behalf of both national organizations, our profound disappointment in this decision.
