In 2005, CACL adopted a 10-year Agenda for Change to work with Canadians, governments, the public and private sectors to make a difference in the lives of Canadians with intellectual disabilities. Together with our Provincial/Territorial Associations for Community Living, we identified 10 core objectives that will make the difference in achieving our vision for a fully inclusive Canada:
With our provincial/territorial counterparts, CACL is encouraging public dialogue on these objectives. We are building partnerships for change, supporting research and sharing knowledge, developing policy options, and strengthening the leadership capacities of families to help guide the change process.
CACL is raising awareness of this vision for change, by launching a flagship publication – A National Report Card on Inclusion of Canadians with Intellectual Disabilities. The Report measures how far along Canada is in achieving these objectives, and identifies successful policies and practices. The data for this Status Report comes from published national surveys by Statistics Canada, and other research.
